The Calgary Flames signed veteran forward Josh Leivo to a one-year, $875,000 contract.
The club announced his signing on Saturday.
Tbe 27-year-old played in 36 games for the Vancouver Canucks last season, scoring 19 points (seven goals, 12 assists). He was sidelined for the rest of the season after suffering a broken kneecap on Dec. 19.
He said he chose the Flames because he sees Calgary as being on the brink of good things. The Dallas Stars eliminated the Flames in six games in the Western Conference first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
"Their mindset is all about winning right now," Leivo said. "They're a team that looks good on paper, so we've got to go out there and show it on the ice. And I think I can be a big part of that."
Leivo has played in 169 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs (2013-18) and Canucks (2018-20), registering 65 points (31 goals, 34 assists). Toronto selected him in the third round of the 2011 NHL Draft.
He joins two former teammates with the Canucks -- goaltender Jacob Markstrom and defenseman Christopher Tanev -- in signing with the Flames this offseason.
