The convicted sex offender reportedly hired private detectives to move materials and equipment from his properties to the storage units
Sex offender Jeffrey Epstein hid files and computers in secret storage lockers across the US which the authorities have still not searched, according to The Telegraph.
In 2008, Epstein pleaded guilty to state charges of soliciting prostitution involving a minor under a non-prosecution agreement, and was sentenced to 18 months in prison. He was arrested again in 2019 on federal charges of human trafficking and exploitation of victims for prostitution.
Epstein was found dead in a Manhattan jail cell while awaiting trial later that year in what was ruled a suicide. His death sparked speculation that he was killed to prevent testimony implicating powerful people that he was associated with.
The Telegraph reported on Sunday, citing credit card receipts, search warrants, and other investigative documents, that Epstein rented at least six storage facilities across the country. The pedophile reportedly began using a facility called Uncle Bob's near his mansion in Palm Beach, Florida as early as 2003.
According to the article, in at least one instance, the disgraced financier instructed private detectives to move his computers into a storage locker after reportedly being tipped off about a police search of one of his properties. Epstein used the services of the Riley Kiraly private detective agency to move items from his properties, The Telegraph reported.
It cited an August 2009 email from Bill Riley to Epstein, in which the police officer-turned-private investigator referred to the "computers and paperwork I took from Jeff's house prior to the Search Warrant," which were subsequently "locked in storage."
According to the article, in 2010, Epstein instructed the private detectives to rent another storage locker in New York.
Last week, Reuters reported that a criminal investigation in New Mexico that was closed in 2019 was reopened after a newly released email suggested that human remains might be buried near Epstein's former Zorro Ranch.
