The NHL trade deadline was also contract-extension day for Seattle Kraken captain Jordan Eberle.

Just like they did during the 2023-24 season, the Kraken re-signed Eberle -- this time to a two-year deal with a reported average annual value of $5.5 million.

The Kraken, who play host to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, also beat the 3 p.m. ET deadline Friday by acquiring forward Bobby McMann from Toronto. The 29-year-old, who will be a free agent at season's end, cost Seattle a second-round pick in 2027 and a fourth-round pick this summer, according to reports. McMann has 19 goals and 32 points in 60 games for the Maple Leafs this season.

The Kraken were looking to boost an offense that is 24th in the 32-team league in scoring.

'There's a lot of things about our hockey team that I really like. Let's just put it that way,' Kraken coach Lane Lambert said prior to the deadline. 'I've been on teams in the past where (shaking things up) did kind of mess it up a little bit, but I've also been on teams where it helped. So you just have to make sure that you do your homework, do your research, know what you're doing and know what you need.'

The Kraken are 2-1-0 midway through a six-game homestand after Wednesday's 3-2 loss to St. Louis. Seattle currently holds the second and final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

Eberle leads the Kraken with 22 goals and 42 points in 59 games.

'It's always been I've wanted to stay here. I think I've expressed that. My family, myself, we love the city of Seattle, the ownership group, everything, the commitment that they have to winning, I've just been on board,' Eberle said after signing his new deal. 'And then obviously in the situation that we put ourselves in, a chance to obviously push and get in the playoffs, and not just that, but a position to go deep in the playoffs. It's been an exciting year and it's going to be exciting down the stretch here with all the meaningful games we're playing.'

The Senators are 2-0-1 on a five-game trip that concludes Monday at Vancouver and have points in five straight games (3-0-2) dating to their last outing before the Olympic break. They are four points out of the last wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.

They also made some deals before the deadline, acquiring forward Warren Foegele from the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday for a second-round pick and a conditional third-rounder in 2026 and sending veteran forward David Perron to Detroit for a conditional pick this summer.

Foegele, 29, is coming off back-to-back 20-goal seasons, including a career-high 24 last year, but has just nine points (seven goals, two assists) in an injury-plagued 2025-26 season.

'(Thursday) was a weird day just in the sense I was preparing for a game, and I woke up from my nap and was just doing my routine, and then I got a phone call from (Kings general manager) Ken Holland informing me that he moved me to Ottawa,' Foegele said. 'Kind of a whirlwind these last 24 hours, but super excited. Obviously, my family back home (in Markham, a suburb just north of Toronto) is super happy they don't have to stay up late to watch games on the West Coast.'

Foegele has one season left on a three-year deal he signed with the Kings in 2024 with an annual cap hit of $3.5 million.

'I think I know about five guys that are on the team, so any time you make that transition it makes it a lot easier,' Foegele said. 'I'm excited for this new opportunity, excited for a different style, one that I think will suit me to my game, and just ready to rock.'
