Joel Farabee scored two goals and added an assist and Ryan Strome scored once and added an assist in his team debut as the host Calgary Flames rode a three-goal second period to upset the Eastern Conference-leading Carolina Hurricanes 5-4 Saturday night.
Morgan Frost netted one goal and two assists while Blake Coleman also collected one goal and one assist for the Flames, who snapped a four-game losing skid after dealing away a couple of key veterans in MacKenzie Weegar and Nazem Kadri this past week.
Goaltender Dustin Wolf made 25 saves.
Seth Jarvis netted one goal and two assists, Andrei Svechnikov posted one goal and one assist, and Sean Walker and Alexander Nikishin tallied once for the Hurricanes, who lost in regulation for only the second time in 16 outings.
Sebastian Aho collected three assists and goalie Brandon Bussi stopped 20 shots as his personal nine-game winning streak ended.
Looking to build on their strong run, the Hurricanes received an early boost when Jarvis opened the scoring on the game's first shot, 44 seconds into the clash.
The Flames regrouped after the first intermission and drew even when Strome, acquired from the Anaheim Ducks at the deadline, buried a sharp-angled shot 19 seconds into the second period. Olli Maatta, making his Calgary debut after being acquired from the Utah Mammoth in the Weegar deal earlier in the week, recorded an assist.
Farabee put the Flames ahead four minutes later by pouncing on a rebound chance to end a strong shift for the hosts, and Frost's power-play goal made it a 3-1 game, burying a loose puck in the slot at the 7:06 mark of the frame.
Coleman extended the lead by taking advantage of a Bussi miscue at 2:24 of the third period. The Hurricanes goalie misplayed the puck, which led to a Farabee chance and Coleman's rebound tap-in.
Walker made it a 4-2 score at 4:41, finishing a golden chance after a Calgary turnover, and Nikishin pulled Carolina within one with a power-play goal, unloading a point shot that found the mark 62 seconds later.
However, Farabee scored what held up as the winner by finishing a breakaway tally, set up by Frost, with 2:18 remaining in regulation.
Svechnikov rounded out the scoring with 11.9 seconds on the clock, but it was too little, too late.
Carolina defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere, who was injured Friday night in Edmonton, did not play due to a lower-body injury.
Calgary defenseman Zach Whitecloud left the game late in the first period after falling awkwardly into the boards and suffering an upper-body injury.
