Davis Martin pitched six effective innings and the Chicago White Sox defeated the visiting Toronto Blue Jays 3-0 on Sunday afternoon to sweep their three-game series.
Martin (2-0) allowed four hits and two walks with six strikeouts. After Bryan Hudson and Jordan Leasure handled the next two innings, Chris Murphy pitched around a leadoff walk in the ninth to earn the save.
Austin Hays, Miguel Vargas and Lenyn Sosa each had RBIs. Luisangel Acuna had two hits.
Ernie Clement had two hits for the Blue Jays, who were 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position in losing their fourth straight.
The White Sox scored once in the first against Eric Lauer (1-1). Chase Meidroth led off by lashing a double to left and scored when Vargas' two-out liner to center bounced past Daulton Varsho for what was scored a triple.
The Blue Jays threatened in the third. Andres Gimenez walked and Brandon Valenzuela, starting at catcher with Alejandro Kirk out due to a fractured thumb, singled to right in his first major league at-bat. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. walked with two out to load the bases. Addison Barger grounded out to shortstop on a superb play by Tanner Murray, who was making his major league debut.
Murray was promoted when outfielder Everson Pereira went on the IL with a sprained ankle.
Lauer, bumped from his scheduled start on Saturday because of illness, was replaced in the third by Austin Voth after a leadoff walk to Munetaka Murakami. Voth, who was promoted on Sunday, allowed Sosa's two-out RBI double to left.
Lauer allowed two runs, two hits and three walks in two-plus innings.
Acuna singled against Voth to open the home fourth, took second on a wild pitch and scored when Hays singled to right.
Hudson allowed two singles to open the seventh before Leasure took over with two out. He fanned George Springer to end the threat.
Barger seemed to be in discomfort after running out his groundball in the third. He was replaced in right field by Jesus Sanchez in the bottom of the sixth.
Toronto optioned pitchers Lazaro Estrada and Brendon Little to Triple-A Buffalo before Sunday's game. Joe Mantiply, who retired all four batters he faced Sunday, was promoted with Voth.
